How to Reach Bhutan

Although Bhutan is considered to be an isolated country located on the thick hills of the Himalayas, the country is well connected with the rest of the world with the help of various mode of transport. Bhutan is gem of a country for global travellers that allows guests from three major areas, Phuentsholing, Samdrup-Jongkhar, and Gelephu. Here are some of the most suitable ways to reach Bhutan.

Air

Paro International Airport is the major airport of the country that offers both direct and connecting flights to major cities of India, Nepal, Bangladesh. However, majority of the flights are operated between India and Bhutan.

Train

Bhutan does not offer direct access via rail; however, tourist can reach the border city Phuentsholing by taking a train from New Jalpaiguri Station (Siliguri) to Hasimara. The 140km of journey may take up to 4hrs depending on the conditions.

Road

Roadways is possibly one of the best ways to reach Bhutan. Siliguri is the nearest metropolitan city from where tourists can take a bus or private cab to reach Jaigaon, the city in Indo-Bhutan border. NH27 and NH 317 are the two major highways that connect Siliguri with Bhutan.
